According to her brother, Jonathan Jibo, who documented the case on X, his sister boarded a Qatar Airways flight from Lagos to Doha for a new job, with the two last in contact while she was still airborne, connecting briefly via the plane’s WiFi shortly before landing. A contact who had arranged to meet her at the airport, a long-standing family friend who had helped organize her relocation, was waiting at the terminal but never saw her arrive. When he raised the alarm with airline staff, he was told she had already collected her luggage and left the terminal, a detail that deepened the family’s confusion given her experience as a traveller, having spent close to 12 years working at a Lagos airport herself.

Jibo said the family asked their agent in Doha to file a formal report with local authorities so CCTV footage from the airport could be reviewed to establish where she was last seen. Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority, stepped in to help after the case went viral, saying he had confirmed through the airline that CCTV showed her arriving safely, collecting her bags and exiting the terminal, and that investigators would next try to confirm whether she had reached her booked hotel.

In a post confirming the resolution of the case, Achimugu said he had spoken with the woman directly and that she is safe. According to him, her mobile phone and international passport had been held by Customs officials in Doha, who were working through unspecified clarification issues, leaving her unable to reach anyone while the process was ongoing. He said she has since been cleared and released, has her belongings back in her possession, and has already contacted her family herself. Achimugu said she personally assured him of her safety and expressed appreciation to everyone who showed concern throughout the ordeal.
Achimugu credited a Nigerian identified as Yusuf Adesoga with playing a central role in locating her, saying Adesoga collaborated with him and, at considerable personal inconvenience, visited every security agency in Doha before eventually tracking her to where she was found. He described Adesoga’s effort as exemplary. He also credited the woman’s brother, Jibo, for raising the alarm when his sister went incommunicado and refusing to let the matter drop, a persistence Achimugu said helped mobilise millions of Nigerians online in the effort to find her.
Achimugu closed his update by thanking everyone who offered words of support and encouragement during the search and said that with the woman’s own direct assurance of her safety, he now considers the case closed from his end.
