The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday struck out the 8-count criminal charge the Federal Government brought against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of posing as Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The prosecution asked for this so that it can try him afresh at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar made the order after the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, applied to end the case. Adeyemi’s lawyer, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose it.
Why the Federal Government pulled the case
Oyedepo told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and the charge originally filed by the Inspector-General of Police. The review found some loopholes, he said.
He argued that the alleged forgery of documents while running the purported agency amounts to offences the FCT High Court can try, not the Federal High Court. He said a new charge had already been filed there and that Adeyemi would be arraigned again without delay.
The case that has now ended
Adeyemi, 38, was being tried under suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 on charges of conspiracy and forgery. Two other defendants were charged with him, but their whereabouts are unknown. They were identified only as Femi and Anu, with no surnames given.
What happens next
Adeyemi is to face the fresh charge at the FCT High Court. No arraignment date has been announced, and the contents of the new charge have not been made public. The Federal Government has said the allegations remain the same in substance, which is forgery of documents connected to the purported agency.
