By The residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has reportedly been surrounded by armed security personnel who arrived in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles, as Osun State votes in Saturday’s governorship election.
The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), the campaign organisation of Governor Ademola Adeleke, disclosed the development in a press statement signed by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, saying the Speaker’s residence had “effectively been sealed off,” with everyone inside reportedly prevented from leaving the premises.
TICC said it could not independently confirm the purpose of the deployment, whether the personnel were providing security or carrying out routine official duties, and called on relevant security agencies to immediately clarify both the reason for the operation and the reported restriction on movement at the residence.
The council said it attempted to reach the publicly available line of the Commissioner of Police overseeing the election, as well as the DIG Election contact line, without success, and that the Police Situation Room’s published number was switched off when contacted.
“On this Election Day, the people of Osun State deserve an atmosphere free from fear and intimidation,” Olajengbesi said, adding that security deployments “must inspire confidence and protect the integrity of the electoral process.” TICC urged residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding while awaiting an official explanation.
AfrikTimes has independently reached out to the Osun State Police Command and the DIG Election contact line for comment on the deployment at the Speaker’s residence and has yet to receive a response. This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
Latest in a Tense Final Stretch
The report comes just two days after Egbedun issued a public appeal to the international community over alleged military activity targeting Accord members in Odo-Otin, and follows a week marked by viral videos attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi and APC candidate Francis Eniade, both alleging threats against Accord members and voters, as well as a cult-related clash in Ilesa that left three dead.
With polls open across Osun State, the reported deployment at the Speaker’s residence is likely to draw close attention from election observers, civil society groups and security agencies over its bearing on the conduct and perceived fairness of the vote.
