Deputy Speaker Kalu Announces Defection of 17 Lawmakers from ADC

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, on Tuesday announced that 17 members of the House have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC)

Leading the defectors, Hon. Yusuf Datti stated that his decision was as a result of the “unresolved crisis” in ADC. He also noted that all efforts in resolving the crisis was futile which makes it impossible for him to stay in the party.

According to the announcement made by the deputy speaker, Hon. George Ibezimako cited that his decision to leave the party was the “consistent and deep-seated division, Fractionalization and lack of internal cohesion within the African Democratic Congress”

Hon. George Ibezimako further highlighted that these crisis have hindered the effective participation which also affects the pursuit of the party’s collective ideal.

Also, Hon. Leke Joseph Babajide defected from African Democratic Congress to All Progressive Congress.

Others who moved to the NDC includes Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, Lilian Orogbu, Peter Aniekweh, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, Abdulhakeem Ado, Murphy Omororuyi.
