JAMB Introduces Process for Candidates Who Lost Access to Registered SIM, Email

Summary

  • JAMB introduces a formal process for candidates who have lost access to their registered phone numbers or emails to update their details
  • The fix follows widespread complaints from candidates unable to receive result alerts or log into their profiles
  • The process requires a court affidavit, a fee, and an in-person visit to a designated JAMB centre, and can only be used once per candidate

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has opened up a new channel for candidates who can no longer access the phone numbers or email addresses tied to their portal accounts, addressing a recurring complaint that had left many unable to retrieve exam results or log in altogether.

The examination body detailed the new process in a video shared on its official X account on Wednesday, laying out a multi-step procedure candidates must follow to regain access. According to JAMB, anyone who has lost their registered SIM card can now request a swap, while those locked out of their linked email address can switch to a new one through the same process.

What Candidates Need to Do

Under the new guidelines, affected candidates must first obtain a court affidavit from a High Court supporting their request for a SIM swap or email change. From there, they are expected to log into their JAMB e-Facility profile, navigate to the “Penalties” section, and select “SIM Swap/Email Change Penalty Payment” before paying the required fee through the portal.

Once payment is made, candidates must visit their nearest designated JAMB PTC/PRC Centre in person; the board stressed that the service is not available outside these designated locations, where they will need to present their profile code and current GSM number, undergo biometric verification, and upload a scanned copy of the court affidavit to finalise the process.

JAMB said the service is reserved strictly for candidates with genuine cases of lost access, and warned that it can only be used once per candidate, urging applicants to double-check the accuracy of the details they submit since there will be no room for a second attempt.

The update comes as JAMB continues to face pressure over portal access issues that have affected candidates during past registration and result-checking periods, with many previously unable to update contact details without going through cumbersome or unclear channels.
