The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad further stated that Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) will form a committee comprising of experts that will oversee the affairs of evaluating the textbooks which will be most suitable options for each subject and level. Also, limited numbers of top- ranked textbooks will be approved to ensure quality control and consistency across the country.

“However, approved textbooks will now undergo a structured national ranking process to identify the most suitable options for each subject and level”

According to the release, any textbook not ranked by the policy of the NERDC will not be permitted for use, “regardless of prior licensing status” the release reads.

Furthermore, the implementation of the policy will take effect from September 2026 after careful evaluation of the framework from the stakeholders involved.
