By Defending Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Remo Stars, have released an emotional statement following their relegation from the top flight at the end of the 2025/2026 season.
The club confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday, May 25, describing the outcome as “heartbreaking” for supporters, players, staff, and the entire Remo Stars family.
Remo Stars suffered relegation after enduring a disappointing title defence campaign. They what from winning the league title in 2025 to dropping into the second tier the following season.
The Sky Blue Stars ended their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance away from home in their final league fixture. However, the result was not enough to secure their NPFL status.
In the statement, the club admitted responsibility for their poor performances throughout the season.
“We understand the disappointment and frustration this season has brought. The expectations attached to this club were high, and rightly so. Unfortunately, we did not deliver the performances or consistency required to maintain our place in the division. We take full responsibility for that failure,” the statement read.
Despite the setback, the club assured supporters of their commitment to rebuilding and returning stronger.
“Our focus now turns toward rebuilding with purpose and determination. Important decisions will be made and every effort will be directed toward returning this club to where it belongs,” the club added.
Remo Stars also expressed appreciation to fans who stood by the team throughout the difficult campaign, acknowledging their unwavering support during the club’s “darkest moments.”
