President Bola Ahmed Tinubu clinched the All Progressive Congress presidential nomination on Sunday with 10,999,162 votes, setting up a bid for a second term on a platform of consolidating economic reforms and expanding infrastructure.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President, President Tinubu received the party’s certificate of return and the party’s symbolic flag as the torchbearer in the upcoming election from the APC National chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda at the international Conference Centre in Abuja, where he accepted the nomination and vowed to place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialization, energy security and food sufficiency.

“With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialization, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency and democratic consolidation,” President Tinubu said.

The result was announced by APC presidential Election Committee Chairman Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, who said voting took place across 36 states, the FCT, 774 local councils, and 8,809 wards on May 23, 2026. Out of 12, 643,316 registered party members, 11,069,746 were accredited and 11,015,665 voted. Challenger Stanley Osifo received 16,503 votes.

In his acceptance speech, President Tinubu appreciated the governors, members of the National Assembly and other relevant stakeholders. He also highlighted achievements since 2023, including the rollout of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, disbursement of over N282 billion to 1.5 million students, and the distribution of 2.5 million prepaid meters under the Presidential metering initiative. He said power generation had peaked at 6,000MW, 50% above inherited levels and cited improved revenue collection, a stronger naira and rising foreign reserves despite global disruptions.

“We moved away from wasteful fuel subsidies, unstable exchange rates, and weak infrastructure. Today, we are witnessing a turnaround: the naira is strengthening, foreign reserves are rising, and our economic outlook is positive despite the inflationary disruption caused by the war in Iran and the geopolitical crisis in the Middle East

We have strengthened macroeconomic stability through improved revenue performance, financial management and better fiscal coordination,” the president stated.

President Tinubu emphasized on the infrastructure across transportation, power, digital connectivity, housing and irrigation as engines for inclusive growth.

“We are building concrete, durable roads and superhighways along the coast and on the Sokoto-Badagry route that will last for over 100 years. We are improving our airports and seaports after decades of neglect. We have reformed the oil and gas sector and are attracting billions of dollars in fresh investment in a sector that was almost comatose.”

The president assured his responsibility to safeguard the lives and property of every Nigerian.

“Democracy is sustained not by uniformity, but by diversity, by a shared belief in the nation and the blending of ideas” he concluded.
