Oyo, Nigeria- The Oyo State Police Command announced the arrest of Saheed Eegunjobi, 38, in connection with an attack on a commercial motorcyclist in Ibadan, according to a statement released by the Command.
The Command stated that the arrest was made possible through cooperation between the police and community based partners, including the Agbekoya Vigilante personnel, who handed Eegunjobi over to the patrol team attached to Idi-Aro Division.
The police statement said that Eegunjobi and an accomplice boarded a commercial motorcycle from the Mokola area while posing as passengers.
According to the Command, at Modina Area, Idi-Aro, the suspects stopped the motorcycle and attacked the rider, Sakiru Tiamiyu, 32, injuring his head with a cutlass. The police statement added that passersby apprehended Eegunjobi at the scene, while the accomplice escaped with the motorcycle.
The Oyo State Police Command said that Eegunjobi confessed to the crime during interrogation. The Command confirmed that the victim was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
Police operatives visited the scene and the hospital and documented the incident with photographs, the Command stated.
The police statement said that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accomplice and recover the stolen motorcycle.
The Command encouraged residents to provide information to the police and remain vigilant, according to the statement.
The Oyo State Police Command added that intelligence driven, collaborative policing remains ongoing and that the safety of lives and property is a priority.
