The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled to be hosted by Morocco.

In a statement released on Thursday, CAF confirmed that the tournament, initially planned for March 2026, will now take place between July and August 2026.

The African football governing body said the decision was taken after consultations with its key partners, including FIFA, as well as other stakeholders involved in organising the competition.

CAF explained that the adjustment of the tournament calendar was necessary to ensure the smooth organisation and overall success of the continental women’s championship, citing certain unforeseen circumstances.

“After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF has decided to reschedule the WAFCON to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in light of certain unforeseen circumstances,” the statement said.

The competition will bring together Africa’s top women’s national teams to battle for continental honours. Defending champions, the Nigeria women’s national football team, are expected to be among the favourites for the title.
