Abuja, Nigeria
Nigeria has praised the outgoing Ambassador of the United Mexican States, H.E. Alfredo Miranda Ortiz, for his contributions to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries. The commendation was delivered on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Amb. Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD, during a farewell audience at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa on Wednesday, Ambassador Ortiz, who served in Nigeria for nearly four years, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for its cooperation and support. He highlighted several milestones during his tenure, including the establishment of the Nigeria–Mexico Chamber of Commerce, the appointment of an Honorary Consul in Lagos, and strengthened agricultural trade under the (SENASICA–NAQS) framework, which has facilitated increased exports of Nigerian hibiscus to Mexico.
In his remarks, Amb. Ahmed while commending Ambassador Ortiz for his impactful service, noted the growth in economic relations between both countries, including trade diversification and rising investment in Nigeria’s agricultural sector. The Permanent Secretary encouraged Mexican businesses to explore opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and the digital and creative economy.

He also highlighted that 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of Nigeria–Mexico diplomatic relations, describing it as a milestone reflecting the resilience and growth of the partnership since 1976.
Responding to the commendation, Ambassador Ortiz reaffirmed his commitment to promoting Nigeria–Mexico relations even after leaving diplomatic service. He assured that he would continue supporting bilateral ties in any way possible.
