By The management of Obafemi Awolowo University has dismissed reports circulating online suggesting that students of the institution have been directed to resume academic activities during the ongoing mid semester break.
The university described the purported resumption letter as fake and fraudulent, stating that it did not originate from the Office of the Registrar or any authorised unit of the institution. The management also clarified that the three week mid semester break approved by the university senate remains in force.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, the institution said the signature attached to the circulated document was forged and criminally fabricated by individuals seeking to create confusion within the university community.
“The said letter did not emanate from the Office of the Registrar or any authorised organ of the University. The signature appended thereto is fake, forged and criminally fabricated,” the statement said.
The university further alleged that the false document was the handiwork of mischief makers attempting to mislead students, parents and members of the public while damaging the reputation of the institution.
“The content is not only false and highly malicious, but also satanic in intent, reckless in conception and condemnable in its entirety,” Olarewaju stated.
The management advised students, parents, guardians, staff members, alumni and other stakeholders to disregard the rumoured resumption notice completely, stressing that it carries no legitimacy or official approval from the university authorities.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, peace and the welfare of members of the university community, while urging the public to rely only on recognised and verified communication channels for official information concerning the university.
