The Federal Government has officially introduced a visa-free entry arrangement allowing citizens of Rwanda to stay in Nigeria for up to 30 days without obtaining a visa.
The policy follows President Bola Tinubu’s announcement at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, where he disclosed Nigeria’s decision to reciprocate Rwanda’s existing gesture toward Nigerian travellers.
In a statement released on Friday 15th of May 2026 and signed by DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the Public Relations Officer, the Nigeria Immigration Service confirmed that directives had already been issued for the immediate implementation of the policy at airports, seaports and land borders nationwide.
Under the arrangement, Rwandan nationals travelling to Nigeria for tourism, business or official assignments will no longer need visas for short visits not exceeding 30 days.
The immigration agency explained that travellers intending to remain beyond the approved period must apply for the appropriate visa through Nigerian diplomatic missions abroad or the country’s electronic visa platform.
According to the Service, the initiative is expected to deepen diplomatic relations between both countries while encouraging easier movement across Africa.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service notes that this initiative reflects the strong diplomatic and bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Rwanda, while promoting intra-African mobility, tourism, and economic cooperation in line with continental aspirations,” the statement stated.
The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining lawful and orderly migration in line with global standards and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
