Gunmen have reportedly abducted Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, by Femi Awogboro, Media Aide to the former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State.
According to the statement, Mrs. John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons were abducted at about 7:30 a.m. while she was on her way to drop them off at school in Ibadan.
“The family of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and leading gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, wishes to formally confirm the unfortunate kidnapping of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
“Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop her children at school in Ibadan. The abductors also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons who were with her at the time of the incident.”
The family disclosed that relevant security agencies have been notified and investigations into the incident have commenced.
“Immediately the incident was reported, all relevant security and law enforcement agencies were duly contacted. We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime.”
The family appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and provide any useful information through appropriate channels that could aid ongoing investigations.
According to the statement, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. She previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and First Bank Pension Custodian before her retirement.
As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Police Command Spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, is yet to comment on the incident.
