The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects and recovered a locally fabricated pistol, vandalised cables belonging to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Oyo, and other suspected stolen items during an operation in Oyo town.
The arrests followed an investigation into the theft of a welding machine reported by a resident, Akanni Hamsat, who alleged that the machine was stolen from his shop in Bara Apaara area of Oyo.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the stolen welding machine was traced to a scrap shop within the area through the victim’s personal investigation.
Mr. Ayanlade noted that operatives of the Durbar Division followed the intel from the victim and arrested the owner of the scrap shop, identified as Suhaib Abdulwahab, 30.
“Acting on the information, police operatives from Durbar Division promptly proceeded to the location, where the owner of the scrap shop, one Suhaib Abdulwahab, aged 30, of Akunlemu Area, Oyo, was arrested,” the statement read.
The police disclosed that a search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, armour cables belonging to NTA Oyo that had earlier been reported vandalised on May 21, 2026, as well as several car air-conditioning components suspected to be stolen.
Further investigations reportedly led to the arrest of two additional suspects identified as Kabiril Mustapha and Abdullah Abdullah, both aged 25 and residents of Akunlemu Area, Oyo.
“The recovered exhibits have been taken into police custody, while investigations continue to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and to identify other possible accomplices,” the statement read.
The Command added that the suspects are cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the recovered items.
The police urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime.
