More details have emerged regarding the rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons after three days in captivity.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, June 6, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, two suspected kidnappers were killed during the police rescue operation.
The victims were reportedly rescued during a coordinated operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in Ibadan at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
AfrikTimes had earlier reported that Mrs. Adegoke John-Paul and her twin sons, Paul and Peter, were abducted on Wednesday, June 3, while she was driving them to school in Ibadan.
The police disclosed that the rescue followed days of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations aimed at tracking the kidnappers and securing the release of the victims.
“The rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations. These efforts enabled investigators to track the kidnappers’ movements, resulting in a confrontation with FID-IRT operatives,” the statement read.
The Force added that two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded during the operation, while two rifles were recovered from the scene.
“During the confrontation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded and two rifles were recovered. The victims were rescued unharmed and are now in safe custody, receiving medical care and support,” the statement added.
The police further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation.
According to preliminary intelligence, some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter.
“Operations are ongoing to track, arrest, and bring all involved to justice,” the Force stated.
The Nigeria Police Force also appreciated members of the public for their support and cooperation throughout the rescue operation and reaffirmed its commitment to combating violent crimes and protecting lives and property across the country.
