Tinubu Reassures Nigerians on Economy, Security at 2026 Democracy Day Service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised Nigerians that his administration will continue to address the economic hardship facing citizens and also to defeat insecurity.

George Akume released a statement through his X account, he noted that the President’s assurance was conveyed at Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

Dignitaries that were present at the occasion include the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu; Minister of Foreign Affairs; Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and the Head of Civil Service of the Federation; Mrs Didi Walson-Jack.

Akume represented the President at the occasion and the theme for the Democracy Day service was themed “God of hope, actualise our dreams,” He described that the consistency of democracy in the country, speaks of its resilience, commitment and sacrifice of the citizens which birthed the 27 uninterrupted years of democratic rule since 1999.

Akume acknowledged the sacrifices of the pro-democracy activists and patriots of the June 12 struggle, emphasizing that their endurance, deaths helped to secure democratic governance in the country.

He also explained the president’s committed efforts in tackling the socio-economic difficulties currently confronting Nigerians. He also acknowledged that the President is fully aware of the economic strain, insecurity, kidnappings and displacement affecting several communities across the country.

“Government is sensitive to all these pains, shares in these pains and has heard your cries.” He stated.

Akume also speaks about the security of the country stressing that the safety of Nigerians is a major priority of the Federal government, analyzing the subsequent attacks and abductions as a “painful reminders that more work remains to be done”

Akume further assured all citizens that those in captivity will safely return home and all security agencies are being supported with adequate resources to protect the lives, secure communities and preserve Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

“The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” he noted.

Akume highlighted that citizens should avoid political violence, hate campaigns, or entwining democracy into a battleground

“Do not rent your conscience for money, drugs, political patronage or online applause. Your future is worth more than any politician’s temporary convenience” he advised
