The Oyo State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of a criminal syndicate and recovered firearms, live ammunition, charms, and other incriminating items during an intelligence-led operation in the Olodo area of Ibadan.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.

According to the statement, operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the residence of one Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, popularly known as “Surii Ilupeju”, at Gbeku Area, Olodo, Ibadan, at about 1:00 a.m. on June 12, 2026.

The operation, which formed part of ongoing intelligence-driven efforts to combat violent crimes in the state, led to the arrest of five suspects identified as Ahmed Nafiu, 43; Olukunmi Olaniyi, 36; Femi Odeyinde, 53; Jelili Akinade, 50; and Muhideen Adio, 27.

The police said a thorough search of the premises resulted in the recovery of a pump-action gun, a cut-to-size single-barrel gun, eight live cartridges, a native bullet-proof vest, two bottles of suspected charm-induced syrup, and assorted charms.

“The suspects are currently in Police custody while discreet investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of their involvement in criminal activities and to apprehend other members of the syndicate who may still be at large,” the statement added.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state.

He assured residents that raids on criminal hideouts would continue until criminal elements are brought to justice.

The Command also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information, assuring that all reports would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
