With Osun’s governorship election now less than a week away, APC figures both within and outside the state have ramped up appeals for the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, even as one chieftain used the moment to caution against violence at the polls.
A call for peace from within the party
Dotun Babayemi, Director-General of the APC’s Osun West Governorship Campaign Council, appealed to residents to approach Saturday’s election peacefully, framing the vote as a straightforward choice that shouldn’t come at the cost of lives or property. In a statement issued Sunday through his media office, Babayemi argued that political differences shouldn’t override the fact that all Osun residents share a common home and warned that whatever is destroyed in the heat of an election will still need to be rebuilt afterwards, regardless of who wins. His central appeal was against treating the contest as a do-or-die affair, urging supporters and stakeholders alike to let the results, not confrontation, determine the outcome.
Babayemi paired that appeal with confidence in his candidate, describing Oyebamiji as ready to deliver people-focused governance and expressing optimism about a strong result on the back of grassroots support.
The statement also detailed a three-day medical outreach Babayemi personally funded across Orile-Owu, Tonkere, and Gbongan in Ayedade Local Government Area, which he said reached roughly 10,000 people with free blood pressure and blood sugar screening, consultations, medication, eye care, and health education. He used the occasion to criticise the state of primary healthcare facilities in Osun, framing the outreach as evidence that the APC campaign remains connected to grassroots needs.
Oyo APC weighs in from outside the state
Separately, the All Progressives Congress in neighbouring Oyo State issued its own statement urging Osun voters to back Oyebamiji, arguing that both states have suffered under what it called poor leadership choices in recent election cycles. The statement, issued by Oyo APC Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare, argued that quality leadership, effective representation, and fairer distribution of resources were the central issues at stake in Saturday’s vote.
The Oyo chapter’s language toward Governor Adeleke was notably sharp, criticising his administration’s record and taking a swipe at his background as an entertainer. The statement argued that Osun’s standing as home to a globally recognised university deserved leadership to match, and claimed the state has seen division, uneven distribution of infrastructure, and strained relations with other South-West states under the current administration.
The party framed Saturday’s election as an opportunity for Osun voters to correct course, describing Oyebamiji as a unifying and capable alternative, and pledged that an APC-led government would prioritise peace, accountability, and faster development.
