Osun Police Launch Investigation Into Shooting of “Emir Ajagungbade” in Ile-Ife

The Osun State Police Command has opened an investigation into the shooting of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade,” which occurred in Ile-Ife on Saturday, September 13, 2026.

According to a police statement, officers were alerted to an incident near the Energy filling station in Ile-Ife and were quickly deployed to the scene to restore calm, secure the area and begin investigations. Preliminary findings confirmed that Oyeyemi had been shot, though the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

The command said it is working to establish both the immediate and underlying causes of the shooting, identify those responsible, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice. Police assured the public that every necessary investigative and operational step is being taken to get to the bottom of the matter.

Police Appeal for Calm

Commissioner of Police for Osun State, CP Ibrahim Zungura, condemned the shooting and cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in any form of reprisal, violence, property destruction or other criminal acts.

Zungura urged residents of Ile-Ife and the wider state to remain calm and law-abiding, and to cooperate with police by coming forward with any information that could assist the investigation.

The Osun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the state, while extending condolences to Oyeyemi’s family and friends.
