Aisha Yesufu, a right activist, has resigned her membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). On Wednesday, she announced through her X account that she intends to contest the Federal Capital, FCT, senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.
she said that she follows the leadership of Peter Obi whom she believes can wheel the vehicle of good governance in Nigeria, “who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works” she added.
She emphasized that her decision to defect to NDC was borne out as a support for Peter Obi, her presence in the political party is a continued support and an honor she conferred on him.
He noted that “this time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat. ”
She stated that “I have tidied up all my obligations to the ADC, ensuring a clean transition”, She further offered her appreciation for the opportunity she gained in ADC to have served as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary at various levels.
She also noted that her “experience has been invaluable and I thank everyone for their support and cooperation.
Earlier, Former Presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex-Kano state governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and 17 members of the House of Representatives were among the prominent political figures who defected to the NDC, with reports indicating their moves was aimed at avoiding internal party conflicts and strengthening a more stable political reform ahead of the 2027 elections.
