A fire outbreak has destroyed a patrol vehicle and several motorcycles at Kara Police Station in Akinyele area of Ibadan, following what authorities described as a suspected attack on the facility.
According to an update from the Office of the Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency on Saturday, April 25, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande said that a distress call was received at about 12:54 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026..
Firefighters, led by CFS Adesina, were immediately deployed to the scene, where a patrol van and seven motorcycles were already engulfed in flames.
“On getting to the scene, it was a Patrol Van and seven (7) motorcycles engulfed by fire,” the statement added.

He added that the emergency response team quickly mounted a coordinated operation to prevent the fire from spreading to the main station building and nearby properties.
“Our officers quickly launched a coordinated attack, restricted the fire from spreading to the police station’s building and other properties,” it stated.
The fire service disclosed that preliminary findings linked the fire to a suspected attack.
“The fire incident was traced to be some suspected arms men attack on the station,” the update disclosed.
While commending the prompt intervention of fire personnel, Akinwande urged residents to adopt proactive fire safety measures.
In a separate incident on the same day, firefighters responded to a residential fire at Araromi Lajaale Street, Zone 4, Moniya, Ibadan, following a distress call received at about 2:19 p.m.
Upon arrival, responders found that a room on the upper floor of a 12-room building had been affected and engulfed by fire.
The statement noted that the cause of the fire was linked to an electrical fault.
“The fire incident was as a result of an electrical surge from appliance plugged-in unattended to and ignited nearby combustibles,” it added.
He further noted that fire officials also carried out a brief safety awareness session for residents and bystanders, stressing preventive measures.
Akinwande reiterated the need for increased vigilance, urging the public to install functional fire extinguishers in homes and commercial spaces and to promptly report fire incidents through designated emergency lines.
