The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has condemned the armed attack on its personnel by a motorist identified as an operative of the Department of State Services, DSS, during a routine traffic enforcement operation in Abuja.
According to a statement signed by Osondu Ohaeri, Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC Headquarters, the incident occurred on Thursday at about 3:20 p.m. around the RS7.118 Idu Unit Command when an FRSC patrol team attempted to stop the driver of a Toyota Carina over an alleged traffic violation.

According to the Corps, the driver ignored lawful directives and continued driving recklessly until traffic congestion forced him to stop near the Command.
FRSC said officers approached the vehicle to conduct routine checks on the driver and vehicle documents, but the suspect became hostile and resisted enforcement procedures.
The situation reportedly escalated when the motorist allegedly advanced toward the officers and later drew a pistol, firing two shots within the vicinity of the Command.
Despite the tension, FRSC personnel successfully disarmed the suspect without any loss of life. One marshal sustained minor bruises during the encounter.
The suspect, alongside the firearm, ammunition components, and vehicle involved, was immediately handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at the Life Camp Police Station for further investigation.
Preliminary findings later identified the suspect as a personnel of the DSS, while the case has since been transferred to the appropriate state command.
The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, praised the conduct of the officers involved, describing their response as professional and restrained despite the provocation and public tension at the scene.
He said no individual or agency was above the law and stressed that security personnel must obey traffic regulations and respect the code of conduct guiding the handling of firearms.
“Firearms and official status must never be used as instruments of intimidation against law enforcement officers carrying out legitimate duties,” he said.
The Corps Marshal also called for stronger cooperation and discipline among security agencies in the interest of public safety and national security.
