Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that his administration is laying a strong foundation to transform Oyo state into the the tourism hub of South-West Nigeria. The governor made the declaration on Wednesday during the International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026, held at the international Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The session brought together investors, policymakers, hospitality operators, creatives and international delegates to discuss strategies for sustainable tourism growth and economic development.
Makinde said his administration is developing infrastructure and systems to attract global investors, nothing that the state’s tourism assets, including Oke-Ogun Igbo ora and the Ikere Gorge Dam have strong global potential
He advised Nigerians to vote for leaders of their choice regardless of their political influence.
“I believe that this election cycle, federal might not work. It has worked in Ekiti state in both instances, but this time around, Nigerians will show politicians pepper” he added.
The governor promised that he would recommend a successor, the people of Oyo would ultimately decides who becomes the next governor. He also emphasized that his administration had created a continued structure in the state.
“But, if you make a mistake and bring someone who will not do good work, it is a one-day event, but the impact will last four years
“So, we must get it right. Leadership changes but systems, they endure. So, our focus has been deliberate,” he noted.
