The round 37 of the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday, May 10, produced high-stakes drama across the table. With only one round remaining, the races for the title, continental qualification, and top-flight survival have reached a breaking point.
Abia Warriors dropped to sixth on the log after suffering a 2-0 home defeat to Kun Khalifat. Uchechukwu Onuoha first-half brace sealed the landslide victory for the away side. The win lifted Kun Khalifat away from the relegation zone to the 15th place with just one match left to play. El-kanemi Warriors and relegation-threatened Niger Tornadoes played a goalless draw in Maiduguri.
League leader, Enugu Rangers, have qualified for the CAF Champions League tournament after they edged Bendel Insurance to a 2-1 victory. Godwin Obaje registered his name twice on the score sheet, scoring in both halves. From the penalty spot, Rabiu Ali found the back of the net for Kano Pillars to secure a 1-0 victory to restrict Warri Wolves to 17th on the log in the relegation battle.
In a surprising encounter, Ikorodu City dropped points in the ongoing continental ticket race after Katsina United sank them with a massive 4-1 in Katsina. The Oga boys managed to pull one back in the 90th minute but it was not enough to energize the derailed away side.
Elsewhere, Kwara United beat Enyimba in a 2-0 encounter thanks to a double goal from Babatunde Bright, while Nasarawa United secured a lone goal victory over Plateau United. Defending champions, Remo Stars came from behind to seal another 2-1 home victory over Bayelsa United. Oyowah and Mbaoma scored to cancel Ofem’s early goal for Bayelsa United. While the win gave Remo Stars an advantage to escape relegation, Bayelsa United have officially relegated from the league, having amassed forty points in thirty-seven league matches.

Similarly, Wikki Tourist have also followed the same relegation route after Rivers United came from behind to beat them 3-2 in a highly congested away encounter. The win for Rivers United is their first away win in 2026 since a 2-1 away win over Plateau United in December. Rivers United are still very much in the title race with 64 points, a point behind Enugu Rangers. Officially, both have equally qualified for the CAF Champions League tournament.
Also, Shooting Stars recorded their three consecutive wins following a 1-0 narrow win over Barau FC. The Oluyole Warriors are now third on the log and they will look to play Niger Tornadoes away from home in an encounter that will decide their continental journey.
