‎The National Universities Commission (NUC) has withdrawn the recognition previously granted to qualifications awarded by Midocean University in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), following a notification from the Federal Ministry of Education.

‎The Commission disclosed this on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in a public announcement issued by its Director of Public Affairs, Rita N. Okonjo, stating that the decision followed an official communication from the Federal Ministry of Education, which conveyed the UAE government’s withdrawal of the institution’s recognition status.

‎According to the NUC, the development means that certificates, diplomas, degrees and all other academic qualifications issued by Midocean University will no longer be accepted for employment, admission into further studies, credential evaluation, professional registration or any other official purpose in Nigeria.

‎ “Consequently, the recognition previously accorded to Midocean University, Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, is hereby withdrawn.” the public statement noted.

‎The Commission urged prospective students, parents, employers, educational institutions and professional bodies to verify the recognition status of foreign universities and their academic programmes before seeking admission, accepting qualifications or entering into academic partnerships.

‎”The Commission therefore advises prospective students, parents, employers, educational institutions, professional bodies, and other stakeholders to take note of this development and exercise due diligence by verifying the recognition status of foreign institutions and their academic programmes.” the notice read.

‎The NUC also called on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), employers, tertiary institutions, professional regulatory bodies and the general public to comply with the directive.

‎Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining standards in higher education, the Commission said it would continue to provide timely updates on the status of foreign institutions and academic programmes recognised in Nigeria.

‎The NUC advised members of the public seeking further clarification to contact the Commission through its official communication channels.
