The Osun State Government has moved to shut down what it calls a misreading of Wednesday’s security council directive, insisting that Comrade Nurudeen Alowonle remains the only recognized leader of the state’s NURTW chapter and that Governor Ademola Adeleke never dissolved the union’s executive at any level.
In a statement issued Friday by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government said Alowonle and his local government executives were appointed in line with the national NURTW’s own guidelines, under the leadership of national president Comrade Musiliu Akinsaya (MC Oluomo), and that, as far as the union’s structure goes, there is no leadership vacuum to fill.
What the government says was actually decided
According to the statement, Wednesday’s security council meeting only suspended NURTW activities across Osun’s motor parks, a move the government frames as a temporary measure to restore calm, not a dissolution of the union’s leadership. It accused a group it described as hoodlums, led by Kazeem Oyewale (popularly known as Asiri Eniba), of twisting that suspension into a claim that a leadership vacuum now exists, one that could be filled by installing a caretaker committee under Oyewale himself.
The government pushed back firmly on that reading, reiterating that the Alowonle-led executive remains the sole leadership recognized both by the NURTW’s national body and by the state government and stating that Governor Adeleke had separately clarified the parks themselves are not closed and should not be treated as such.
A direct order to security agencies
The statement went further than simply clarifying the union’s leadership status. It also carried an explicit directive from the governor to security agencies to remove Oyewale and his group from all motor parks in the state without further delay, because he holds no legal standing to operate there. The government added that once park security stabilizes, NURTW operations under Alowonle would resume normally and without obstruction.
Context: a name now facing more than a leadership dispute
This is the same Kazeem Oyewale, “Asiri Eniba,” whom AfrikTimes reported this week to have been charged alongside twelve others with murder and unlawful possession of firearms over a February 2025 shooting in Iragbiji that killed two men. According to court filings, that case is currently proceeding via substituted service after the defendants reportedly evaded personal service of the charge, with an arraignment scheduled for August 4.
Recall that Asiri Eniba led a team of individuals earlier this week in a controversial protest against what it described as another faction of the NURTW in the state. It’s also the same dispute that surfaced in an earlier public recognition of Asiri Eniba as a factional chairman by Osun APC and their factional ALGON, a claim that had already put the union’s Osun leadership in question before this latest government statement moved to settle it firmly in Alowonle’s favour.
