Operatives of the Obantoko Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected “one-chance” robbers allegedly terrorising Obantoko and surrounding areas, while recovering a stolen iPhone 12 Pro and other mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from victims.
The suspects, identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, were arrested following a distress call received by the division on May 28, 2026, at about 5:15 p.m. regarding a robbery incident involving a female victim and her two sisters.
According to a statement issued by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, preliminary investigation revealed that the victims boarded a Nissan Micra taxi from the Somorin area en route to NNPC Kuto.
The statement noted that upon reaching the OLG Somorin axis, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly diverted from the agreed route, became violent and forcefully dispossessed the victims of their belongings before pushing them out of the vehicle.
The police said the complainant later discovered that her iPhone 12 Pro had been stolen and immediately raised an alarm.
“Upon receipt of the distress report, detectives of Obantoko Division, in collaboration with vigilant members of the public, swiftly mobilised to the scene, leading to the arrest of two suspects identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, while the operational vehicle escaped from the scene,” the statement read.
The Command added that the swift intervention of the police prevented an attempted mob action by angry residents who had gathered at the scene.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime, while the stolen iPhone 12 Pro has been recovered and released to its owner. Other suspected stolen phones were also recovered from them
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended officers of the Obantoko Division and members of the public for their swift response and collaboration, which led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the stolen property.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities.
