‎President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the leader of the pan Yoruba socio political group, Reuben Fasoranti, as a steadfast voice for justice, national unity, and the dignity of Nigerians.

‎‎The President made the remarks on Monday during the centenary celebration of the elder statesman held in Akure, where he praised Fasoranti’s lifelong commitment to democracy, education, and the defence of the oppressed.1778528388512

‎Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said the Afenifere leader devoted much of his life to advocating for the under represented and resisting oppression despite personal risks and sacrifices. He added that Fasoranti remained one of the few leaders whose public service has consistently reflected integrity and compassion.

‎‎“Chief Fasoranti gave voice to the under represented and sacrificed his comfort in doing so. He rejected the convenient silence of the privileged and embraced the burden of advocacy, the loneliness of principle, and the risk of standing with those whom society was tempted to ignore,” the President said.

‎Tinubu also commended the elder statesman’s enduring belief in education, noting that Fasoranti began as a classroom teacher before becoming a moral voice for the nation. He stated that the centenarian had remained committed to fairness and justice even during periods when democratic values were under threat in the country.

‎‎During the event, Vice President Shettima commissioned a newly completed flyover project in Akure on behalf of the President. The Ondo State Government later named the project after Pa Fasoranti in honour of his contributions to public service and national development.

‎Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, described the Afenifere leader as a symbol of principled leadership and integrity. According to the governor, Fasoranti’s life demonstrated that public office should be regarded as a sacred duty rather than an avenue for personal enrichment.

‎‎“He never traded principles for convenience. His life has become synonymous with truth, justice, and the defence of enduring values,” Aiyedatiwa stated.

‎‎Also speaking at the ceremony, Dapo Abiodun presented a tribute on behalf of the people of Ogun State, describing the celebrant as an iconic Nigerian whose legacy would continue to inspire future generations.

‎‎In a speech read by his younger sister, Olori Rachel Tubosun Falae, Pa Fasoranti expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, governors, traditional rulers, family members, associates, and guests who attended the celebration.

‎“I have seen colonial rule. I have seen independence. I have seen war and peace. I have seen military rule and democracy. Through it all, one thing has sustained me: the fear of God, hard work, and service to others,” the elder statesman said.
