‎The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced nationwide special patrol operations ahead of the 2026 Eid El-Kabir celebration, deploying over 30,000 Regular and Special Marshals across the country to ensure safer highways and smooth movement of travellers.

‎The operation, scheduled to run from May 25 to May 31, is part of efforts to reduce road crashes, traffic congestion and other emergencies commonly associated with increased vehicular movement during festive periods.

‎According to a statement dated May 23, 2026 and signed by Osondu Ohaeri, Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Abuja, said operational equipment, including patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, motorcycles, radar guns and breathalysers, had been deployed to strategic locations across the federation to strengthen emergency response and traffic management.

‎”The Corps has fully mobilised operational equipment and logistics, including patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, bikes, radar guns, breathalysers, and other traffic control facilities,” The Statement read.

‎According to the FRSC, commanding officers across all formations have been directed to sustain aggressive visibility patrols and ensure full coverage of identified highways and flashpoints throughout the exercise.

‎The agency noted that the operation would focus on offences such as excessive speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of phones while driving and operation of mechanically deficient vehicles.

‎The Corps also disclosed that mobile courts would be in full operation nationwide to ensure speedy prosecution of traffic offenders during the period.

‎Major routes marked for intensive patrol include the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano corridor, Akwanga–Lafia–Makurdi route, Ibadan–Ogere–Sagamu road, Sagamu–Mowe–Lagos expressway and the Asaba–Abraka–Ughelli–Warri axis.

‎Speaking on the operation, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the deployment was aimed at ensuring safer roads and a hitch-free celebration for Nigerians during the Eid El-Kabir period.

‎“We have fully mobilised personnel and operational logistics across the country to guarantee safer roads, prompt rescue services and effective traffic management throughout the festive season,” he said.

He urged motorists to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, overloading and night travel, stressing that compliance with traffic regulations remained critical to preventing avoidable crashes.

‎“Road users must cooperate with personnel deployed on highways and prioritise safety at all times during their journeys,” he added.
