By As the 2025/2026 season came to an end on Sunday, May 24, Enugu Rangers were officially crowned champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League after defeating Ikorodu City 2-1 in Lagos on the final matchday.
Chidiebere Nwobodo scored twice for Rangers, finding the net in both halves. Moses Ali pulled one back for the hosts, but it was not enough to deny Rangers all three points as they secured their ninth league title.
The Flying Antelopes previously won the league in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1984, 2016, and 2024. Their latest triumph now puts them level with Enyimba FC in the number of league titles won.
Elsewhere, Rivers United defeated Katsina United 3-0 at home. The victory would have been enough to hand them the title if Ikorodu City had managed to avoid defeat against Rangers.
Shooting Stars also officially secured a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, marking their return to continental football after 27 years. Despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Niger Tornadoes, the Ibadan-based side still sealed qualification after Ikorodu City fell out of the race following their loss to Rangers.
The victory for Niger Tornadoes lifted them from 18th position in the relegation zone to 15th place, ensuring their safety. Warri Wolves also escaped relegation after edging Abia Warriors 2-1 in a thrilling encounter.
In a plot twist, defending champions Remo Stars played a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance. Unfortunately, the lone point obtained from the match was not enough to secure their spot in the top-flight campaign as they were relegated alongside El-kanemi Warriors who suffered 3-0 defeat from Enyimba FC.
