Nigerian Army Denies Claim That Garus Gololo Is a Retired General

‎The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports describing Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, as a retired General in the military.

‎In a disclaimer posted on its official X handle on May 26, the Army said a report published by Sahara Reporters wrongly identified Gololo as a retired Nigerian Army General in a story linked to his alleged arrest in Abuja.

‎According to the Army, Gololo is neither a retired officer nor a General in the Nigerian Army, stressing that the description was false and misleading.

‎The Army warned that such reports could create wrong impressions among members of the public and damage confidence in national institutions.

‎“The portrayal of the individual as a retired General of the Nigerian Army is false, misleading, and capable of creating wrong impressions in the minds of the public,” the statement said.

‎The military authority urged media organisations to verify information before publication, especially on issues involving the Armed Forces and national security institutions.

‎It also called on relevant media platforms to correct the report in order to curb the spread of misinformation.

‎“The public is therefore urged to disregard the misleading attribution and be properly guided,” the Army stated.
