The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports describing Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, as a retired General in the military.
In a disclaimer posted on its official X handle on May 26, the Army said a report published by Sahara Reporters wrongly identified Gololo as a retired Nigerian Army General in a story linked to his alleged arrest in Abuja.
According to the Army, Gololo is neither a retired officer nor a General in the Nigerian Army, stressing that the description was false and misleading.
The Army warned that such reports could create wrong impressions among members of the public and damage confidence in national institutions.
“The portrayal of the individual as a retired General of the Nigerian Army is false, misleading, and capable of creating wrong impressions in the minds of the public,” the statement said.
The military authority urged media organisations to verify information before publication, especially on issues involving the Armed Forces and national security institutions.
It also called on relevant media platforms to correct the report in order to curb the spread of misinformation.
“The public is therefore urged to disregard the misleading attribution and be properly guided,” the Army stated.
