The second day of the #BringBackOurChildren protests in Ibadan turned chaotic as protesters ran for safety after being confronted by unidentified hoodlums reportedly carrying guns and charms.

The disruption occurred along the UI/Bodija route when a group of suspected hoodlums suddenly charged toward the protesters while wielding guns and waving assorted charms.

AfrikTimes observed that the frightening development disrupted the momentum of the protest as demonstrators scattered in different directions in search of safety.

The hoodlums reportedly fired two gunshots in the air to scare away the protesters.

Earlier on Tuesday, June 2, protesters had taken to the streets of Ibadan to continue demanding the release of abducted Oriire victims and improved security of lives and property across Oyo State and Nigeria.

AfrikTimes earlier reported that protesters gathered at the gate of the Oyo State Government Secretariat on Monday, June 1, 2026, to call on the government to intervene and secure the prompt release of the over 30 abducted pupils and teachers.

Unlike the first day, the protest became more intense on Tuesday as demonstrators blocked roads and disrupted movements in parts of the city.

The protest procession began from Mokola Roundabout, moved through Sango and the University of Ibadan axis, and continued toward Bodija before it was eventually disrupted by the hoodlums.

More details to follow.
