The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress on Wednesday condemned the abduction of Mrs Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu and her 12 year old twin sons by gunmen in Ibadan, as it urged Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently collaborate with security agencies to curb rising kidnappings in the state.
Mrs John Paul and her children were reportedly kidnapped at about 7:30am on Wednesday at Elewura-Challenge area after gunmen trailed their vehicle from home and flagged it down. Oyo APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said the incident has heightened public anxiety amid unresolved abductions of school children and teachers in Oriire LGA and two staff of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria in Idi-Ayunre, Oluyole LGA.
The party urged the federal, state and local government to take necessary steps in tackling the insecurity in the state.
“We use this medium to appeal to the relevant authorities at the federal, state and local government levels to take a critical look at the security architecture of Oyo state with a view to tightening all the loose ends and ensure maximum protection of lives and properties of the citizens regardless of their background, economic or social-political status.”
The party demanded immediate rescue of all Oriire school abductees , 2 CRIN staff, Mrs Busayo John-Paul as well as others who are in captivity. The party also requested efforts from the government and security agencies to intensify their efforts in tackling the kidnappings and violent attacks against the residents of the state.
The party highlighted that “No citizen deserves to live in perpetual fear and anxiety as it is the situation with the residents of Oyo state at the moment and it is on this premise that we call on Gov. Makinde to come from his high horse and seek help where necessary so that the situation does not degenerate further. As it stands, nobody is safe anywhere in the state and it has never been this bad.”
