The Ondo State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that a kidnapping incident occurred in a school within Akure, the state capital, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Wednesday June 3, by the government, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, said authorities had found no evidence of any kidnapping in schools across the metropolis.
”The Ondo State Government has become aware of false reports circulating on social media and messaging platforms alleging an incident of kidnapping in a school within Akure metropolis,” the statement said.
According to the government, checks conducted by security agencies confirmed that no such incident took place in any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution in Akure.
”There is no record, report, or incident of kidnapping in any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution in Akure. All schools in the state capital are safe, open, and conducting academic activities without disruption,” Adeniyan stated.
The government said security agencies, including the police, the Amotekun Corps, and the Department of State Services (DSS), had verified the situation in schools across the city and confirmed that normal activities were ongoing.
It added that existing security measures in schools remain in place, with government officials working alongside school authorities and parents to ensure the safety of pupils and students.
”Security agencies, including the Police, Amotekun Corps, and DSS, have verified all school environments in Akure and confirmed normalcy,” the statement noted.
The government urged residents to avoid spreading unverified information, warning that false reports could create unnecessary fear among parents and the public.
”We urge members of the public, especially parents and guardians, to disregard the fake news and refrain from sharing unverified information that is capable of causing panic and anxiety,” Adeniyan said.
Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of learners and educators, the state government encouraged residents with genuine security concerns to report them to the nearest police station or Amotekun post.
”The safety of our children and teachers remains a top priority for the Aiyedatiwa administration,” the statement added.
