The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced a significant reduction in road traffic crashes, injuries, and the number of people involved in accidents during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir special patrol operations across the country.
According to the Corps, road traffic crashes dropped by 25.65 per cent during the festive period, with 142 crashes recorded in 2026 compared to 191 recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.
The operational report also showed that the number of people involved in road crashes decreased by 22 per cent, falling from 1,364 persons in 2025 to 1,064 in 2026. Similarly, the number of injured victims declined by 25.35 per cent, from 576 to 430.
The FRSC attributed the improved safety record to a combination of strategic personnel deployment, intensified patrol activities, intelligence-led surveillance, motorised chain patrols, public awareness campaigns, and prompt rescue operations carried out nationwide before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations.
Speaking on the outcome of the special patrol exercise, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended officers, Special Marshals, and partner agencies for their commitment throughout the operation, noting that strategic safety advisories aided the success.
”The results demonstrate that sustained enforcement, strategic planning, and collective commitment to road safety can substantially reduce the burden of crashes on Nigerian roads.” he said.
The Corps Marshal also expressed appreciation to motorists and other road users who complied with traffic regulations and followed safety advisories issued by the Corps during the holiday period.
While celebrating the achievement, he assured Nigerians that the FRSC would continue to strengthen its operational strategies, improve stakeholder engagement, and enhance emergency response mechanisms aimed at further reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities on the nation’s highways.
”Road safety remains a shared responsibility requiring the cooperation of every Nigerian.” he added.
The report described the outcome of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir special patrol operations as one of the Corps’ most successful festive-season interventions in recent years, with hundreds of lives protected through coordinated enforcement and safety measures nationwide.
