‎The operation was carried out on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, by troops of 12 Brigade under 2 Division Nigerian Army following intelligence from residents who alerted security personnel about suspicious movements in the community.

‎The soldiers quickly moved into the area and discovered that the attackers had already gathered pupils of Iluke Primary School as part of plans to abduct them. The troops engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon the operation and flee.

‎According to the Army, one of the terrorists was neutralised during the encounter, while several others escaped with gunshot injuries after coming under fire from the advancing troops.

‎A statement signed by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, confirmed the development and praised the community members for providing timely information.

‎ “The prompt response of the troops prevented what could have been a large scale abduction of school children and undoubtedly saved many lives.” The statement read.

‎However, the terrorists killed a teacher and a resident before the arrival of the troops, an action the Army described as another display of their criminal and inhumane activities against innocent citizens.

‎The military said troops are currently pursuing the fleeing attackers, while security agencies in neighbouring areas, including parts of Niger State, have been alerted to block possible escape routes.

‎The Army urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible information, adding that measures have been intensified to protect communities and prevent further attacks.
