President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Alhaji Audu Sule Katagum, the Waziriin Katagum and former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State under Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, describing him as a respected public servant whose contributions left a lasting impact on the state.
In a condolence message released by the State House on Monday June 22, 2026, the President paid tribute to the late statesman, noting that he served Bauchi State with dedication and humility in several capacities, including as Chief of Staff and later as Deputy Governor between 2018 and 2019.
Tinubu also highlighted Katagum’s professional accomplishments as an architect and his reputation as a man committed to public service and community development.
“Alhaji Audu Sule Katagum was a well-regarded man of integrity who gave his best to public service. Posterity will remember him for his contributions to governance and community development in Bauchi State,” the President said.
The President further acknowledged Katagum’s role as Waziriin Katagum, a traditional title through which he provided counsel to the Katagum Emirate Council and supported efforts aimed at promoting peace, unity and social cohesion within the emirate.
The President extended his condolences to the Katagum Emirate, the government and people of Bauchi State, members of the Sule Katagum family and others affected by the loss.
Katagum who passed away on June 20 at the age of 69, is remembered as a prominent public figure whose service spanned government administration, traditional leadership and community development.
