The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has assured students of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic that efforts are underway to resolve the alleged irregularities in the disbursement of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), with affected beneficiaries expected to receive refunds.
In a statement issued on Wednesday June 24, 2026, NANS President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, said the association had made significant progress following its intervention and engagements with relevant authorities over the matter.
According to him, the leadership of NANS has received several communications from stakeholders aimed at ensuring that the reported anomalies are addressed and that the objectives of the student loan scheme are protected.
”In the last few hours, I have been inundated with calls from relevant authorities, all geared towards ensuring that these irregularities do not continue and that the purpose of the loan scheme is not defeated.” he Said.
Akinteye urged affected students to remain calm and avoid taking actions that could complicate the ongoing refund process, stressing that the association had assumed full responsibility for pursuing a student-centred resolution.
He disclosed that the management of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic had reached out to NANS in a bid to resolve the issue, adding that the association would soon meet with the institution’s leadership to ensure that all identified irregularities are corrected.
”The management has reached out for a resolution, which I have maintained must only be one that is student-centric.” he added.
The NANS president further stated that the engagement would focus on ensuring that all affected students are refunded while any excess funds are returned to NELFUND.
”The leadership of NANS will, in no distant time, meet with the management to this effect and ensure that all the anomalies are corrected, all affected students are properly refunded, and all excess funds will be returned to NELFUND.” the statement read.
Reaffirming the association’s commitment to students’ welfare, Akinteye assured beneficiaries that NANS would continue to monitor developments and provide updates as discussions with the institution progress.
”I shall never compromise on matters affecting your welfare. You are not alone; you have the leadership of NANS at your service, and we will continue to speak for you and represent you diligently.” the association noted.
