The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to hold its 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions on May 11 in Abuja. The event will take place at the Body of Benchers Auditorium in Jabi, Abuja, bringing together key stakeholders in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
According to a social media post on X by JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the annual policy meeting is a major decision-making forum where admission guidelines for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education are determined. It sets the minimum acceptable scores for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and outlines the framework for the admission process.
According to the board, the 2026 meeting will also define the direction for the 2026/2027 admission exercise. Stakeholders are expected to deliberate on policies aimed at strengthening transparency and compliance in the admission system across institutions nationwide.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, is expected to unveil key policy directions that will guide the sector. His address is expected to highlight the Federal Government’s priorities in improving access, quality, and accountability in higher education admissions.
Fabian Benjamin noted that the meeting remains a critical platform for aligning stakeholders on admission standards and reinforcing strict adherence to established guidelines.
Participants at the meeting will include vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars, and admission officers from tertiary institutions. Representatives from regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) are also expected.
