Manchester City have been crowned FA Cup champions for the 2026 campaign following a narrow 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Saturday, May 16, at Wembley Stadium.

Antoine Semenyo’s skillful, rare-foot weak strike in the 72nd minute secured the decisive win for Manchester City after he converted a precise cross from Erling Haaland.

Manchester City had secured their spot in the final by coming from behind to defeat Southampton 2-1, thanks to late strikes from Jeremy Doku and Nico Gonzalez that canceled out Finn Azaz’s opening goal. Meanwhile, Chelsea qualified for the final by holding onto a 1-0 first-half lead against Leeds United, courtesy of an Enzo Fernández header from the center of the box into the bottom-left corner.

The victory earns Manchester City their second domestic cup of the season, following their clinical 2-0 win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final in March 2026. Interestingly, both silverware-clinching victories this season have come against London rivals.

This triumph also marks their second domestic cup double, riding on their historic 2018/19 campaign when they’re swept the domestic honors. With this achievement, City join Liverpool as the only English clubs to complete this specific cup double twice, with Liverpool previously accomplishing the feat in the 2000/01 and 2021/22 seasons.

This latest triumph marks the third FA Cup and the twentieth major trophy overall for Pep Guardiola during his tenure as City manager. Since assuming the role in 2016, his historic haul includes six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, four Carabao Cups, three FA Community Shields, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Guardiola also remains firmly in the race for the 2026 Premier League title. Manchester City currently sit second in the table with 77 points, just two points behind leaders Arsenal with two matches remaining to decide the champions.
