The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans for a solidarity and advocacy movement in Oyo State to demand the rescue of students and teachers who were abducted in Orire Local Government Area.

‎In an invitation issued on May 29, 2026, the association expressed concern over the continued captivity of the victims, noting that three weeks have passed since the attack without their release.

‎NANS President, who signed the notice on behalf of the student body, described the situation as a critical moment requiring collective action from students, stakeholders and other concerned groups across the country.

‎According to the association, the planned movement is aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the abducted victims and urging security agencies to intensify efforts toward their rescue.

‎”It has been three weeks since this cruel and callous act was perpetrated, and it is appalling that, till this day, the abducted students and teachers are yet to be rescued.” The notice said.

‎The student body said the programme will begin with visits to affected schools in Ahoro-Esiele, including Community High School/Grammar School, L.A. Primary School, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

‎The delegation is also expected to visit the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State and the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) to press for stronger action on the case.

‎A peaceful walk against insecurity is scheduled to take place in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as part of the activities.

‎NANS stressed that silence was no longer an option in the face of the prolonged hostage situation.

‎”At this critical crossroads, silence is no longer golden; we must act decisively and forthwith.” the union added.

‎The solidarity and advocacy movement is scheduled to hold on Monday, June 1, 2026, in Oyo State.
