By A rift has opened within Osun State’s All Progressives Congress, with some members turning on Senator Iyiola Omisore, the state’s former Deputy Governor, over a video allegedly posted to his WhatsApp status in the days following the August 15 governorship election.
The video, delivered in Yoruba ewi, cast Omisore as a dominant political figure in Osun. Some party members read the content as a veiled shot at the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and an attempt to tie him to the APC’s showing in the election. Its circulation has since stirred debate within the party, with some members calling the timing unnecessary when the APC should be focused on unity ahead of future contests.
Responding to the video, APC stakeholders pushed back on the framing, arguing that Oyetola remains a significant figure in Osun politics regardless of how the two men’s paths have diverged. Members from Ifeland pointed to the 2018 governorship election, when Oyetola carried both Ife North and Ife South local government areas, as evidence of his standing in the very region Omisore is being credited with dominating.
Party members also revisited Omisore’s own electoral history, recalling his multiple runs for the Osun governorship dating back to 1999 under various political platforms. They argued that Oyetola’s record simply outweighs Omisore’s by comparison, noting that Oyetola has served as governor of the state while Omisore never has. According to these members, Omisore has struggled to accept that Oyetola commands real goodwill across Osun, Ifeland included, the very area Omisore points to as his political base.
