By A Primary Health Centre in Osun State has notched a first for the facility, successfully performing an emergency Caesarean Section that brought a healthy baby boy into the world. The operation took place Friday afternoon, August 28, 2026, at Oke Gada PHC in Ede, where Mrs Rukayat Adeniyi delivered a 3.5kg baby with both mother and child reported to be doing well.
Dr. Ashafa Musa, who carried out the procedure, said Adeniyi had been under antenatal care at the facility since May and that a vaginal delivery had originally been the expected outcome before circumstances called for surgical intervention instead.
Her husband, Kehinde Adeniyi, praised the medical staff for how they handled the delivery, calling their conduct professional and dedicated throughout. He extended that praise to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration as well, crediting state investment in upgrading Primary Health Centres for making the outcome possible. What struck him most was the cost, or the absence of one, in which a comparable procedure at a private hospital would have run into hundreds of thousands of naira, yet his wife was treated at no charge.
Dr. Sina Igbalaye, Executive Secretary of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board, toured the facility following the operation and commended the attending physician and health workers for their handling of the case. He tied the achievement directly to the governor’s broader healthcare push, pointing to the recruitment of additional health workers and the strengthening of PHCs statewide as the forces behind it. For Igbalaye, what happened at Oke Gada wasn’t an isolated success but a sign that the government’s investment in primary healthcare is translating into real access for residents. He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to keeping that momentum going, with particular emphasis on ensuring women and children can reliably access affordable, quality care close to home.
