The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, has uncovered and disrupted a sophisticated examination malpractice syndicate during the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination held at the College of Education, Warri, Delta State.
According to an update, published on the official Facebook handle of the Nigeria Police Force on May 8, by DCP Anthony Placid, the Force Public Relations Officer, Abuja, disclosed that the operation followed intelligence driven investigations into attempts by criminal elements to compromise the integrity of the examination through technology assisted fraud and unauthorized remote access to examination systems during the conduct of the UTME.
Preliminary investigations revealed that unauthorized remote access was illegally gained into candidates’ computer systems while the examination was ongoing. Acting on credible intelligence and digital forensic leads, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force carried out coordinated operations that led to the arrest of three suspects directly linked to the criminal activity.
The Police further revealed that investigations had uncovered the involvement of additional examination centres suspected of engaging in similar illegal activities. As part of immediate measures, JAMB has withdrawn results from the affected centres pending the conclusion of investigations, while affected candidates are expected to participate in a mop up examination in line with established procedures.
The Force warned candidates, examination centre operators, and collaborators against engaging in examination malpractice, cyber assisted fraud, and unauthorized system intrusion, stressing that it remains committed to identifying, dismantling, and prosecuting criminal networks seeking to undermine the credibility of Nigeria’s educational system.
