The Oyo State Government has confirmed a total of five cases of Lassa fever and one recorded death in the recent outbreak.
The development comes days after AfrikTimes reported the death of an infected female patient at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Notably, this latest update has raised concerns and prompted the government into emergency response.
According to an update received from the state government, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, disclosed that confirmed cases are currently being managed at designated isolation and treatment centres, including the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC), Olodo, and the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
Officials disclosed that an Emergency Operations Centre has been activated and over two-hundred individuals have been identified as contacts. In addition, infection prevention measures, public sensitisation campaigns, fumigation and decontamination in affected areas are currently being implemented
Residents have been advised to report symptoms, stay calm, remain vigilant, and maintain proper hygiene needed to minimise exposure to rodents.
