The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed circulating claims alleging irregularities in its passport application and payment process, describing them as false and misleading. The Service reaffirmed that its system remains secure, transparent, and fully compliant with government regulations.
In a statement issued on Monday from its headquarters in Abuja, the NIS emphasized that its passport application services are accessible only through its official portal. The agency clarified that the platform remains the sole authorized channel for all passport-related payments and processing for Nigerians at home and abroad.
“The NIS operates a secure, transparent, and government-approved passport application system, accessible exclusively through its official portal,” the statement read.
The Service also refuted allegations suggesting that a religious organization is linked to its payment process, insisting that no such partnership exists. It warned that any third-party links or platforms claiming to process passport payments on its behalf are fraudulent and should be avoided.
“The Service has not authorized any religious body, private entity, or individual to act as an intermediary or receiving account on its behalf,” the agency stated.
According to the NIS, preliminary investigations indicate that the claims may have originated from individuals attempting to mislead the public or damage the agency’s reputation. It assured that appropriate action would be taken against anyone found responsible for spreading false information.
The Service further urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and to use only its official channels when applying for passports. It reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public trust by strengthening its systems and ensuring strict adherence to financial and operational standards.
