Babcock University has raised the alarm over the circulation of fraudulent academic documents allegedly linked to the institution, warning members of the public against accepting certificates that were not issued through its official academic channels.
The university, in a public notice dated June 29, 2026, said it had become aware of documents being circulated by individuals claiming affiliations with the institution and presenting certificates purportedly awarded by the university.
According to the management, one of the documents in circulation was a supposed “Honorary Certificate” allegedly issued by the Babcock University Biochemistry Computer Club to ODERHOWO JOSEPH EFE, popularly known as Carter Efe, for attaining a “First Class Upper” academic status.
Babcock University described the document as fake and unauthorised, stressing that it did not originate from the institution.
“Babcock University unequivocally states that this document is false, unauthorized, and does not emanate from the University.” The statement read.
The university clarified that it does not award honorary certificates as recognition for undergraduate academic performance, noting that academic achievements are only confirmed through official degree certificates and transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar.
It added that the institution does not recognise “First Class Upper” as an academic classification, explaining that the approved classification is “First Class Honours.”
The management urged employers, educational institutions, government agencies, professional bodies, and members of the public to disregard any certificate claiming to have been issued by the university outside its established processes.
The institution also warned that individuals involved in producing, circulating, or using forged academic documents could face legal action.
“Any person knowingly producing, presenting, circulating, or using forged or unauthorized academic documents may be liable to investigation and prosecution,” the university stated.
Babcock University further said it would take necessary legal steps against any individual or organisation that misuses its name, logo, seal, or academic credentials.
The university advised the public to verify the authenticity of any academic document linked to the institution through the Office of the Registrar before using it for official purposes.
The university’s reaction followed claims by Carter Efe, a TikTok streamer and comedian, who stated that he was a graduate of the institution with a “First Class Upper” degree. The claim surfaced amid the controversial “Olodo Upraising” trend, which sparked discussions online.
